As a thank-you to the community for supporting Kilwin’s Chocolates Fudge & Ice Cream at Grand Boulevard, owners Kristen and Paul Nykamp have decided to give back through two events next week, “Scoop for Cause” and a partnership with Destin Harvest.
“Scoop for a Cause” will be held Monday July, 27 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. During this time 20% of all Kilwin’s sales will go toward helping local soccer coach and business owner, Jason Thompson, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Jason’s favorite sundae, “The Corner Kick” consisting of vanilla ice cream, butterscotch topping and delicious toffee crunch pieces will be featured on the 27. More information about helping Jason can be found at www.kickingitforjason.com.
“We decided to create the “Scoops for a Cause” Program to thank everyone for their support of our business over the past two years. We wanted to thank our customers and especially our community for their business. We are honored to help Jason and his family in any small way we can,” Kristen Nykamp said.
Tuesday July 28, Kilwin’s will partner with Destin Harvest from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For every cone sold at Kilwin’s during those hours, an equal amount of ice cream will be donated to Destin Harvest. Anyone interested in donating their own food to Destin Harvest can leave it in the “Needs Drop Off” box at Kilwin’s on the 27. Destin Harvest is a local food bank that passes donated food on to non-profit organizations in the community.
“In honor of National Ice Cream month, we thought donating ice cream for every cone that we sell would be perfect,” Kristen Nykamp said.
During the hours of these events, with the purchase of a waffle cone, customers can buy a second waffle cone for only one dollar. Anyone interested in helping Kilwin’s with their “Scoops for a Cause” event should e-mail Paul or Kristen Nykamp at destingrandboulevard@kilwins.com.
