Transformations - Art Show and Silent Auction Benefiting Alaqua Animal Refuge

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Transformations is celebrating its opening night party on July 1st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Transformations Gallery located at 38 main street in Rosemary Beach, Florida.  Art Show & Silent Auction will be held on July 1st - 18th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.  The artists of South Walton have put their hearts and hands to work to help bring a very unique art show to 30A.  100% of all money raised from this event will go directly to the area’s only no kill animal shelter, the Alaqua Animal Refuge.

The amazing artworks donated for this event have been given a second chance.  Originally cast off and rejected by the artist who created them, these pieces have since been repurposed and transformed into something beautiful and desirable to others.  The idea runs parallel to what AAR does for rejected animals once they are placed into their care.  AAR works tirelessly to help cast off animals become healthy and whole again and ultimately adoptable.  A TRANSFORMATION occurs.

We think this anonymous hugging wall created by Keetra Dean Dixon is kind of creepy, but definitely interesting. She fashioned it as part of her ongoing series Methods & Apparati for Social Facilitation and Mood Elevation. I guess everyone needs a hug now and then.

Meet the Bodies in Urban Spaces project by Austrian artist Willi Dorner.  Groups of dancers, climbers and performers wearing brightly coloured clothes run through busy malls and high streets and cram themselves into doorways, alcoves and any gap they can find in public buildings. Dorner does this to explore the relationship between body, space and architecture. His intention is to provoke passers by to reflect on their own urban environment and movement within that space. These impromptu living public sculptures certainly do catch the eye!

Discovering Houston 8

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Last weekend, a couple of us went shopping at the new Houston 8 store in Destin. Our entire experience at the trendy clothing shop was amazing! We thought the fashion forward clothing was very cool and Linda, the sales associate who helped us, was incredibly attentive and helpful. When we left, our merchandise was encased in these beautiful bags that none of us would begin to throw away. We will probably keep them to use as purses or beach bags!

The contemporary boutique says they cater to those leading a “Life Less Formal.” The casually chic shop carries a variety of denim, tees, and contemporary wear for every age and generation. The jewel in their crown is a designer denim collection that rivals boutiques from New York City to Los Angeles. All of their fashion lines complement the endlessly hip, relaxed and stylish denim selections sure to provide a phenomenal look.We just wanted to give a heads up about this shopping gem!

What is more fun than a mustache? Nothing.

Pop’s ‘Staches are what these quirky, comical creations are called. These might even be better than a milk mustache.  After all, they’re portable, detachable and not quite as messy. Plus, they instantly provide the desired laugh or frightened sideways stare from whoever might be watching you drink your “pop.”
