Wednesday, November 26th, 2008
30A-Radio 107.1 FM, a non-profit extension of Seaside Neighborhood School, will host its 2nd annual Radiothon fundraiser on Friday, December 5 and Saturday, December 6. The live on-air charity event will feature a “who’s who” roster of local personalities, business owners and musicians.
“We really need to raise $20,000 to keep the station in operation, and we’re so fortunate to have such loyal listeners and supporters,” said Leslie Kolovich, 30A-Radio’s General Manager. It takes an estimated $50,000 per year to keep the radio station operating, with sponsorships helping make-up the difference. “This year, in addition to our guest DJs, we also have an incredible line-up of entertainers who will perform live on the air, including Dread Clampitt, Geoff McBride, Tim Jackson and many others.”

Chocolate Fashion Show!
Thursday, November 20th, 2008
Two weeks ago the 11th Annual Chocolate Show hit New York. The three day event showcases fine chocolates and chocolate related goodies from around the world, but the part we found most interesting is the highlight of the event: the Chocolate Fashion Show. Designers team with chocolatiers and pastry chefs to create carefully crafted chocolate fashion wear modeled at the show. What could be more exquisitely paired than chocolate and fashion?!

Sylvie Douce & Francois Jeantet are the geniuses behind this masterpiece. Partners in business and life, they are the CEOs of Event International, Inc., a Paris-based international marketing, press relations and event production agency. Together they have created and implemented national and international campaigns for renowned clients such as Mercedes-Benz, Heineken, Kraft Foods, Boucheron, Chaumet and Rolex.
In the 90’s they conceived the brilliant and delicious idea of a chocolate show for the public and the Salon du Chocolat was born in Paris. In its first year, the Salon welcomed 40,000 visitors. Each year since, the show has increased in popularity. Based on the enthusiastic responses of American visitors, Sylvie and Francois chose New York, the food capital of the United States, as the site for a U.S. Show. In 1998, the first Chocolate Show was held on Thanksgiving weekend and was a smashing success. With locations in Paris, New York, Tokyo, Beijing, Moscow and Shanghai, it would seem this craze is catching on.

A New Word Is Born…
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008
The Collins English Dictionary defines a new word “meh” as “an expression of indifference or boredom, or an adjective meaning mediocre or boring.” Examples given by the dictionary include “the Canadian election was so meh.”Publisher HarperCollins announced on Monday the word had been chosen from terms suggested by the public for inclusion in the dictionary’s 30th anniversary edition, to be published next year.
The origins of “meh” are murky, but the term grew in popularity after being used in a 2001 episode of The Simpsons in which Homer suggests a day trip to his children Bart and Lisa.”They both just reply ‘meh’ and keep watching TV,” said Cormac McKeown, head of content at Collins Dictionaries.
The word has wound its way through the world wide web for years. This inclusion in the dictionary further proves the influence pop culture and internet shorthand are having on the day to day lives of English speakers everywhere!
