Escape to Create, a popular artist-in-residence program hosted in Seaside, held its first annual Writers’ Conference this month. Organized in small group sessions, the participants explored literary interests ranging from the craft of writing to the pursuit of the pleasures of reading with leading authors, poets, playwrights, songwriters and professionals in the publishing field. Visiting authors conducted insightful workshops, performed eloquent readings and engaged in vibrant panel discussions. Many found the experience to be one of the most exhilarating events they have attended in recent memory! It far exceeded everyone’s expectations!

The conference culminated with a book signing and writers’ reception hosted by Sundog Books. The air was abuzz as aspiring writers exchanged ideas with accomplished authors and admirers shared their literary experiences over a glass of chardonnay and some delicious homemade hour d’ oeuvres. Prudence Bruns (for whom the Beatles’ song “Dear Prudence” was written), thoroughly enjoyed the conference and each of the authors whom she interviewed. You can read further in-depth details about Prudence’s experience at the conference in the upcoming Winter issue of VIE.
